MARKHAM LIONS PURINA DOG WALK A HUGE SUCCESS
On Sunday, May 29th at Milne Park, 26 dogs (and their owners) gathered to enjoy their mutual friendship and to show their support for Guide Dogs. It was a cloudy day but the spirits were high as Markham's Deputy Mayor Jack Heath and Markham Lions President Larry Tod cut the official ribbon to start the walk at 11am.
The walk took 45 minutes to complete and the dogs (and owners) on returning were rewarded with a well-deserved lunch and refreshments. A lunch-time musical serenade was provided by the Air Cadet band from the 351 Silver Star Squadron. Thanks also to the St.John's Ambulance Corps for providing a watchful eye over our activities.
Prizes were awarded in several dog categories but the real winners were the Dog Guides being trained at the Lions Oakville facility.
The walk raised over $3000 from the participants and on-line donations to help the Lions raise and train more Dog Guides for the physically impaired. Congratulations to Lions John Styles, Ken Drynan and their committeee for organizing such a successful begining for this annual event.
