Markham Fair Food Booth
Every Lion in the organization, their spouses ,children and
sometimes grandchildren are involved in this major event. Occurring
in the weekend before Thanksgiving weekend, this activity entails
feeding the 40,000 + visitors to the Markham Fair over a four
day period. The menu consists of hamburgers, Lionburgers, cheeseburgers, hot
dogs, and soft drinks. It is a hectic activity that
is well organized and well managed after over 60 years of operation.
Fireworks Sales
Every Victoria Day weekend and Canada Day weekend, the Markham
Lions sell fireworks at the Markham Museum grounds and the Markham
Village Community Centre parking lot.
Flower Sale
Beginning in early April, the Markham Lions members begin their
house to house sale of 11 different bedding plants such as petunias
and impatience as well as 6 different hanging flower baskets. These plants
are then delivered in late May for planting. The reception by
the public has been exceptional and is one of the major means
of gaining exposure to the Markham citizens for the work that
we do in the community.
Wedding Show
The concept of the Wedding Show is to provide local and York
Region vendors an opportunity to demonstrate their products and
capabilities to brides intending to be married in the next year.
Currently there are large Bridal Shows in the city of Toronto
and the Markham Lions decided that it should not be necessary
for local brides to travel that far to contact local vendors
that provide wedding services. The purpose of the Wedding Show
is three-fold: first, to provide brides in the community with
ideas, tips and great Show Specials as well as to meet with Wedding
vendors under one roof ; second, to provide vendors an opportunity
for them to meet the brides and set up appointments and three,
provide the Markham Lions with revenue that will allow them to
service the community better.
The Markham Wedding Show will occur on September 15 &16,2007 at
the Mount Joy Community Centre in Markham. There are 76 booths
available to vendors. There are
two fashion shows scheduled daily demonstrating the most current
fashions in the Wedding Industry. Contests,give-aways and live
music are also featured.
2006 was the inaugural year for this fund -raiser and as a first -time event it was successful in bringing in over 50 vendors and over 300 brides. Based on the acceptance that we received in the wedding industry in 2006,it is expected that the Show will be more successful in 2007, drawing increased numbers of vendors and brides.
